Is Delhi Airport's Terminal 2 Shutting Down a Smart Move?
A big change is coming for Delhi flyers. Will it make travel easier?

New Delhi [India] April 14: People who have been flying from Delhi for years might feel a little lost after this news. IndiGo Airlines announced that starting April 15, 2025, they will no longer operate from Terminal 2 (T2) of Indira Gandhi International Airport. This isn’t just for fun — it's because of major maintenance work that needs to be done at T2. So, now flights will only operate from Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 3 (T3).
How Will This Impact Daily Travellers?
This shift might confuse a lot of passengers, especially those who are used to reaching T2 in a hurry. Travellers must now double-check their terminal before leaving for the airport. Airlines like IndiGo and Akasa Air have already begun sending messages through WhatsApp and Email to notify passengers. If someone misses this change, it can lead to huge delays, missed flights, and unnecessary stress.
What's Happening Behind the Scenes at T2?
The Delhi airport's Terminal 2 has been handling domestic flights for many years. It was earlier shut in 2009, but after revamp, it reopened in 2017 to manage air traffic better. Now, another big round of upgrades is planned, as passenger footfall has increased massively in recent times. This repair work is not short-term — it’s a part of improving Delhi Airport’s overall infrastructure and safety standards.
Terminal 1’s Grand Makeover is Ready
To handle the load, Terminal 1 has been fully upgraded. From April 15, T1 will have better facilities, smoother check-ins, and improved travel comfort. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) says the new look of T1 is meant to offer a world-class flying experience. All Akasa Air flights will also now fly from T1’s 1D section, which is already buzzing with excitement about this change.
What Passengers Should Do Now
People flying in or out of Delhi after April 15 must stay alert. It's advised to check the flight details on the airline's official website, or directly talk to customer care. Since multiple airlines are involved, not just IndiGo, the impact will be widespread. Regular travellers, especially those heading for business, exams, or weddings, must plan their airport journey more carefully than before.
