Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] December 20 : A gas truck collided with many vehicles on the Jaipur-Ajmer route, causing a major fire. At least 11 people were killed, and nearly 40 more were injured. The quick spread of flames was seen on CCTV footage from a nearby residence in the moments after the disaster.

Details about CCTV footage

The camera video, which shows flames quickly surrounding a property along the roadway, emphasizes the urgent danger to surrounding properties. The situation for people around was terrible, as thick black smoke covered the sky and explosions fueled the fire.

The extent of damage

The flames were visible from about a kilometer away, and the fire spread across a 300-meter stretch of highway. Several businesses along the route were severely destroyed, and roughly 30 vehicles were damaged. The fire's intensity resulted in a long line of vehicles, bringing traffic to a complete stop.

Emergency Response

The fire department's vehicles and ambulances arrived on the scene quickly to assist victims and control the flames. Nearly half of the 40 injured people who were sent to SMS Hospital are said to be in critical condition. A 'green corridor' was established to speed up the transport of emergency services from the accident site to the hospital.

Eyewitness Accounts

The fire spread quickly, causing chaos and panic, according to witnesses. One person narrated seeing a man enveloped in flames, highlighting the risk that anyone near the accident faced. The suddenness of the explosion left little time for people to respond, resulting in tragic outcomes.
