Jaya Bachchan Sparks Rajya Sabha Row Over 'Operation Sindoor', Tells Priyanka Chaturvedi: "Don’t Control Me"

New Delhi (India) July 31: Veteran actor Jaya Bachchan is a member of the Samajwadi Party. She causes a stir in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. She questions why India's retaliatory action after the Pahalgam terror attack was named "Operation Sindoor." She highlights that many women were widowed in the incident and had truly "lost their sindoor.”

Criticism of 'Sindoor' Name

Jaya Bachchan opens her remarks in the upper house during a debate on the Pahalgam incident and the resulting military action. She starts by offering her condolences to the families of the 26 individuals who were murdered on April 22 in the Baisaran Valley in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaya says, "I would congratulate you on the writers you have hired. You give grand names. Why did you name it 'Sindoor'? Sindoor toh ujad gaya (sindoor was destroyed), the wives of those who were killed.”

Viral Exchange With Priyanka

In a surprising turn of events, Bachchan also reprimands Priyanka Chaturvedi for attempting to calm her. She is a Shiv Sena (UBT) MP. Priyanka was sitting next to her.

Jaya says, "Don't control me, Priyanka". Chaturvedi laughed in response. On social media, a video of the interaction became viral very fast.

The event happens when Jaya Bachchan was speaking in the Rajya Sabha. She was clearly annoyed by the BJP MPs who kept interrupting her.

Jaya says, "Either you speak or I will speak. I will not allow this. When you speak, I never interrupt. When a woman speaks, I never interrupt. So please, mind your tongue.”

She also criticized the administration for failing to maintain public safety and an intelligence failure. In the Rajya Sabha, she declared, "You have destroyed the faith and trust of the people you made promises to."
