Kolkata: On Wednesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party asserted that Mamata Banerjee engages in appeasement politics in West Bengal. The party attacked her over the Sandeshkhali controversy and asserted that Banerjee is a quiet witness to sexual violence against Hindu women and that Hindus are compelled to pray in private in Basirhat.
The BJP charged Mamata Banerjee sharply earlier on Monday, claiming that she is responsible for the “genocide of Hindus” and that she is now permitting her party’s employees to assault women sexually.
BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar of West Bengal, who is attempting to visit the Sandeshkhali neighborhood of North 24 Parganas, stated- “Hindus have to offer prayers secretly in Basirhat and several other places in West Bengal. Idol immersion during Durga Puja has already been stopped by Mamata Banerjee, she has differed the date once. This is the dirty politics of Mamata Banerjee. She only thinks of appeasement politics and not about the development of the people. I will try to visit Sandeshkhali, and see if the police try to stop me”.
Later, during a brawl between BJP workers and police, he sustained injuries. The West Bengal administration came under fire on Wednesday from BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia over claims that women in the Sandeshkhali block had been sexually harassed. “West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is acting as a silent spectator. This is a matter of concern. This press conference highlights the lawlessness that prevails in West Bengal where it is clear to every citizen the rule of law does not prevail or exist, rather the law of the anarchy ruler Mamata Banerjee prevails,” he said.
He asserted that she makes no effort to protect women’s dignity. “When the perpetrator of the crime happens to be a TMC goon, the chief minister of the state doesn’t even care to uphold the dignity of the women of the state, especially Hindu women, being targeted by the goons of Sheikh Shahjahan, the absconder,” he added.
Bhatia also said -“It will not be wrong to say that West Bengal has turned into a state where there is a government run by the rapist, of the rapist. Instead of standing in support of the victims, Mamata Banerjee is supporting the rapist.”
For the past few days, a number of women in Sandeshkhali, Bengal, have been staging protests. They claim that TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates have harassed them sexually. They want the leader to be taken into custody.
