Retired Policeman Cheated Of ₹19 Lakh In Flat Scam
All seven accused are being tracked down. The fake cheque and incomplete building are part of the evidence.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 21: A retired 60-year-old policeman from Mumbai was tricked by a group of seven people. They promised him a flat in Thane for ₹21 lakh. He paid ₹19 lakh over time, trusting their words. But he neither received the house nor his full money back. They returned only ₹2 lakh, and then disappeared without fulfilling the promise.
False Documents And Fake Cheque
One of the accused gave him a cheque with a fake signature to win trust. But when the cheque bounced, the truth came out. The complaint was made at Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan. Such frauds often use fake documents and emotional trust to cheat people, especially the elderly who are looking for peaceful homes after retirement.
Years Of Waiting, No Result
The cheating happened slowly between 2018 and 2025. The victim waited patiently, thinking his flat would be ready soon. But every visit and phone call gave only new excuses. The building itself was under construction for years. These long delays are common in scams where builders collect money but never complete the promised work.
Real Estate Frauds In India
Maharashtra has seen many such real estate frauds in the past. Many retired people and working families are cheated by false builders. They show big dreams but disappear after taking money. The government has made laws like RERA to stop such scams, but the cheaters still find new ways. People are advised to check builder background before paying.
Police Start Investigation
After the FIR was filed, the police began their search. All seven accused are being tracked down. The fake cheque and incomplete building are part of the evidence. Cases like this remind us to stay alert while buying property. A small check in the beginning can save huge money and years of pain later on.
