Samir Modi, Lalit Modi’s brother, arrested at Delhi airport over 2019 rape case linked to false marriage promise
At the Delhi airport, Samir Modi, the brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi, was taken into custody. This is in relation to a 2019 rape case because of a complaint alleging harassment under false marriage promises.

New Delhi (India) September 19: According to authorities, Samir Modi was taken into custody at the Delhi airport on Thursday. The case is in relation to a rape allegation from 2019. He is the brother of fugitive businessman Lalit Modi.
Samir Modi Arrested at Delhi Airport
Samir Modi is an entrepreneur. He was detained at the airport after returning from a trip overseas. According to police, he was placed under arrest after the filing of a formal complaint against him at the New Friends Police Station. The complaint is under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Samir's lawyer asserts that the accusations made against him are untrue. They are an effort to extract money.
Simran Singh, Samir’s lawyer says, "The complaint is based on false and concocted facts and the allegations have been made with the ulterior motive of extracting money from him.”
They say that the complaint is a “clear case of abuse of the provisions of law and also hasty acts of the police in making an arrest without verifying the facts”.
His attorneys claim that Samir was held at the airport in response to a LOC (Lookout Circular) request from the New Friends Colony police station.
FIR Accuses Him of Rape, Threats, and Harassment
The complainant said in the September 10 FIR that the businessman had been raping, threatening, and cheating on her on a regular basis since 2019. In December 2019, Modi allegedly forced himself on her at his home in New Friends Colony. This is after approaching her under the false pretence of offering career chances in the fashion and lifestyle business.
According to the police, the woman claims that she was constantly harassed, beaten, and blackmailed under false pretences of marriage even though she knew he was already married.
The complainant also says that Samir used his power to silence her by intimidating her and making false promises. She was constantly threatened with death and separation from her family if she mentioned the abuse.
Defence Lawyers Claim Allegations Are Fabricated and Part of a Rs 50 Crore Extortion Attempt
Samir’s lawyer also said, “She claimed to be in a relationship with Samir Modi since 2019. On August 8 and 13, Samir Modi filed complaints before various police officers for extortion and blackmail by the lady. These were supported by the WhatsApp chats between them where she asked for an amount of Rs 50 crore”.

Samir Modi is the brother of former IPL chief and fugitive businessman Lalit Modi. He is the managing director of Modi Enterprises. He is also the creator and managing director of the direct selling business Modicare.
