On the day of the Aditya-L1 launch, ISRO chief S Somanath received a cancer diagnosis;he claims to be “now cured.

“According to ISRO chief S Somanath, he had surgery and chemotherapy to treat his cancer after the Aditya-L1 launch.

Chief of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), S Somanath, recently disclosed in an interview that he received a cancer diagnosis the day of the launch of Aditya-L1, the country’s first solar observatory. Aditya-L1 was launched on PSLV-C57 on September 2nd, headed for the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point 1. On January 6, following a four-month space voyage, it was positioned in the planned orbit around the L1 point.

Regarding his cancer, what did ISRO Chief S Somanath say?

“There were some health issues during Chandrayaan 3,” the ISRO chief recalled in a Malayalam interview with Tarmak Media House. But I wasn’t exactly sure what I understood about it.

S Somanath disclosed that he found the problem on the day of the Aditya-L1 introduction, two months later. “The morning of the day Aditya-L1 was introduced, I performed a scan. It was then that I became aware of the increase in my stomach. The moment the launch took place, I knew something about it,” the ISRO chief stated.He subsequently had a scan in Chennai to confirm the issue. He added that after examinations within two to three days revealed a genetic condition, he had surgery.

“I was advised to have an operation after Aditya-L1”. The procedure was carried out. I had chemotherapy after that,” he stated.

According to S. Somanath, “I was able to alleviate my fears” after informing his close relatives and personal family of the news.

Family members were taken aback by the announcement, he continued.

However, as time goes on, I see cancer and its therapy as a solution. S Somanath claimed to have been cured of the illness and that there is a message indicating that it is not incurable.Every year, I’ll be getting regular checkups. I’m going to get scanned. However, I am fully recovered now. I’ve started working again,” he declared.

Who is S Somanath, the head of ISRO?

Since January 14, 2022, S. Somanath has served in the capacities of chairman of the Space Commission and secretary of the Department of Space. He was previously the director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Center (LPSC) and the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).S Somanath is an authority on launch vehicle system engineering. Notable contributions were made by him to the PSLV and GSLV Mk-III’s general architecture, propulsion stage design, structural and structural dynamics designs, separation systems, and integration processes.
