Dilli Haat (New Delhi) [India] May 1: On the evening of April 30, 2025, a huge fire broke out at Delhi's well-known Dilli Haat market in the INA neighborhood, seriously damaging a large number of booths and stores. Around 8:55 p.m., the fire broke out, and the Delhi Fire Service responded almost away, sending 14 fire trucks to the area. Thankfully, there have been no recorded casualties.

Delhi's Dilli Haat is an open-air market, food plaza, and craft mart that charges admission. The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) is in charge of the region. The plaza has a village feel because to extensive foundation construction, little thatched-roof homes, and kiosks.Rosewood and sandalwood sculptures, adorned camel leather shoes, elegant fabric and draperies, jewels, beads, brassware, metal crafts, and silk and wool textiles are a few examples of the products that may be presented. The complex's exhibition hall hosts a variety of events that promote handicrafts and handlooms.

The fire damaged about 30 establishments, including several food stalls and crafts shops. Significant losses have been reported by store owners; some have calculated that the damages may amount to crores. One seller lamented losing all of his life's resources after using loans to put up the station, while another said he had lost products valued about INR 1.5 crore.

Social media users shared videos of the fire's ferocity, which showed dense smoke rising into the sky and flames devouring the market. Investigations are being conducted to ascertain the cause of the fire.

There are concerns over fire safety precautions in public marketplaces have been raised after the occurrence. To determine the cause of the incident and assess the effectiveness of current safety procedures, authorities are likely to carry out a comprehensive investigation. Meanwhile, attempts are underway to assist the impacted sellers and bring the market back to its previous level of vigor.

Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called this incident ‘unfortunate’ but was pleased by the fact that the firefighters were able to control the fire.

She posted “No casualties have been reported so far. We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring all necessary assistance to those affected.” on the social media platform X.

Unfortunately on Wednesday, there were two fire incidents recorded. DFS was contacted earlier in the day, at about 2:05 pm, regarding a fire at a clothing store in Gandhi Nagar, Shahdara.
