Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] July 01: Eyewitnesses at the Pashamylaram industrial estate in Sangareddy district has now shared what they saw at the site. They described it as a very horrifying moment. The incident reportedly happened around 9:20 am. A massive explosion ripped through a pharmaceutical plant in industrial estate. Ultimately, flinging some workers nearly 100 metres away. The noise was so loud. Some people nearby thought it was an earthquake. According to the health minister, about 90 people were working when the reactor exploded. The blast blew apart the factory shed and sent fire across nearby structures. Many of the workers were migrant labourers from Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and other states who came seeking work.

The Scene of Fear: Cries, Flames and Chaos

The explosion caused a total collapse of the unit. It also caused spread of fire to nearby buildings within seconds. People working nearby said the thick smoke by fire made it hard to breathe and see. Some workers were seen shouting for help. They were lying injured across the site. The fire kept growing, and the local communities panicked as smoke spread to homes. Authorities soon began evacuating people living nearby to keep them safe. A few minutes changed everything—people were working, and the next moment, lives were lost, and families left in fear.

What Exactly Went Wrong?

According to Telangana Disaster Response chief Y Nagi Reddy, the explosion likely happened during the drying process of microcrystalline cellulose. This is a fine powder used in medicine, food and cosmetics. Experts said something went wrong with the air handling system. The plant belongs to Sigachi Industries, a well-known producer of pharmaceutical ingredients. The company admitted the incident happened around 9:20 am at their Hyderabad unit. They said they are still confirming the number of injured but promised that the safety of their staff is the highest priority.

‘No Safety Rules Followed’, Says MLA at Site

Local MLA Mahipal Reddy reached the site and accused the company of running without safety measures. He said many workers have died and several are still injured. He also claimed the company is not sharing the full truth about the deaths. This raises big questions: Were proper safety checks ignored? Could this have been stopped? The company has now suspended all work at the plant for 90 days for repair and restoration. Meanwhile, families of workers are waiting for answers, struggling with loss, pain and uncertainty.

A Dark Day for Sigachi Industries and Its Workers

Sigachi Industries runs three manufacturing units, and this Hyderabad plant alone handles 6,000 MTPA of production. The total capacity is 21,700 MTPA. After the blast, the company reported damage to both machines and buildings. The local community now fears returning to normal life near the factory. Rescue teams are still checking the debris for those possibly trapped there. The entire area remains under close watch. The tragedy has sparked demand for strict checks in industrial zones, reminding everyone that without strong safety, work can turn deadly in seconds.
