New Delhi (India) September 13: The murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event leads to the arrest of a 22-year-old Utah man Tyler Robinson.
Reason behind Murder
Authorities clarify on Friday the potential reason for the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. They claim that Tyler Robinson, the suspect, had informed his family the day before the shooting that he did not like Kirk because he "spread hate." Robinson is the son of a former employee of the sheriff's department. His father turned him over to the police.
Spencer Cox is the governor of Utah. He begins the press conference by saying, "We got him."
The governor also says, “The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner prior to September 10. And in the conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU,” during the press conference on Friday.
Shooter caught after 24-hour manhunt and turned in by his father
According to sources, Robinson had escaped police for over twenty-four hours before being turned in by his own father. His father is a 27-year member of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.
The reports say that the suspect told his father about it, and his father quickly notified the police. Amber Robinson is his mother. She works for a state-contracted organization that offers care for those with impairments.
FBI tracks suspect through digital traces and Discord chats
FBI Director Kash Patel confirms Robinson's arrest. He states that investigators had followed him using digital traces and his roommate's testimony. There are messages recovered from the gaming and communication software Discord. They reveal Robinson talking about intentions to pick up a gun from a drop point and then leave it in a towel-wrapped bush. It resembles the description of the rifle that was found by police close to campus.
According to sources, Robinson had recently become more political. He had also made derogatory remarks against Kirk. However, his social media posts show smiling selfies and pictures from family vacations. They suggest a happy life.
Trump reacts strongly, calls for harsh punishment of the accused
The murder sparks an immediate political response. President Donald Trump states "with a high degree of certainty" that the suspect is in custody before the FBI officially verified the arrest. He calls Kirk "the finest person" he had ever met. He wants the accused to be hanged.
Kirk is the co-founder of the right-wing organization Turning Point USA. He was giving a public talk at the university's Losee Centre when he was shot in the neck by a single bullet. Kirk's "American Comeback Tour" made its debut during the event. There were around 3,000 attendees present at the event. According to officials, the gunshot was fired from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away.
