Ramban (Jammu & Kashmir) [India], May 4: It was a quiet morning near Battery Chashma on the Jammu-Srinagar highway when an Army truck, part of a moving convoy, suddenly lost control. In just a few seconds, it rolled down a 700-foot-deep gorge. No one expected this silent disaster on such a busy and well-known route. It reminded many locals of earlier accidents that happened on the same stretch, making them pray a little longer before every journey.

Who Were the Soldiers

Sepoy Amit Kumar, Sujeet Kumar, and Man Bahadur were inside the truck. They were not just soldiers—they were sons, brothers, and dreams in uniform. As soon as the news came, silence fell in their villages. Their families had last spoken to them just a day ago. This was not a battle zone, but still, these men gave their lives while serving the nation. Their duty didn’t stop with danger, and their courage will always stay in our hearts.

What Happened on the Road

The truck was going from Jammu to Srinagar on NH-44 when it slipped off the edge at around 11:30 am. The sharp turns and hilly curves are no strangers to danger. But this time, the road didn’t forgive. Locals say this patch near Battery Chashma has seen many such events, especially during sudden changes in weather or due to overuse of roads by large vehicles. Drivers often fear this part, yet soldiers never slow down their duty.

Efforts to Save

Within minutes, teams from the Army, police, SDRF, and even villagers rushed to help. The rescue operation was brave and fast, but all three soldiers had already passed away. The truck was found in pieces, fully damaged. The people helping didn’t even know the soldiers, but still, they cried like they had lost their own. These efforts showed the unity and humanity that still lives in the hills of J&K.

History of Such Accidents

Just two months ago, a vegetable truck also fell into a gorge in the same Ramban area. The drivers died on the spot. In Reasi district too, four people died when their tempo lost control and fell into a gorge. Such accidents are sadly not new. The Jammu-Srinagar highway has always been both a lifeline and a risk line. People here know every journey can be a test of luck and faith, especially during bad weather or heavy traffic.
