Past Crashes

This year has seen two crashes involving Jaguar aircraft.

One pilot was killed when an IAF two-seater Jaguar fighter plane crashed in an open field in Suvarda village in Gujarat's Jamnagar district in April. The crash occurred during a training mission for the Jaguar fighter jet.

The Jaguar fighter plane had crashed in an open field 18 kilometres from Jamnagar city. The incident took place close to the Kalavad highway. According to the authorities, the plane was on a night flight.

In March, two jets crashed on the same day: an AN-32 cargo plane crashed at Bagdogra, West Bengal and a Jaguar fighter jet crashed shortly after taking off from the Ambala air base in Haryana.

According to officials, the flying crew evacuated safely in both cases. The cause of the AN-32 plane's crash-landing is unknown at this time. The Jaguar aircraft crashed after running into a technical issue.

Over 30 Jaguar fighter planes have crashed in India in the last ten or more years. The IAF wants to phase out its approximately 121 Jaguars by 2031. They want to replace them with more contemporary and modern jets such as the HAL Tejas Mk1A.
