Ahmedabad Plane Crash: DNA of 32 bodies matched; remains handed over to the families
An Air India flight headed for London was involved in one of India's deadliest airline crashes on Thursday, which claimed the lives of at least 274 people.

New Delhi (India) June 15: The Gujarat government has announced that 32 victims of the Air India Flight AI171 tragedy have been identified by DNA testing and that the process of delivering their remains to their relatives has begun. One of the crash victims' DNA matches that of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
Dr Rajnish Patel, Additional civil said, "Thirty two DNA samples have matched till now, and 14 bodies have already been handed over to the respective families. These deceased were from Udaipur, Vadodara, Kheda, Mehsana, Arvalli, Ahmedabad and Botad districts.”
Authorities in Gujarat made arrangements for the victims of the recent Air India airline tragedy to receive death certificates at the hospital right away. Banchha Nidhi Pani, the Ahmedabad municipal commissioner, stated that this action was done to avoid requiring families to attend several government agencies during their grieving time.
A Boeing team has also arrived in Ahmedabad to assist with the investigation into the tragic Air India Dreamliner plane crash. The US-based team will support the continuing investigation technically as the maker of the Boeing 787 aircraft. The probe also involves a number of foreign authorities.
A London-bound Air India flight was involved in one of India's deadliest flight crashes on Thursday, which claimed the lives of at least 274 people. A Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, number AI 171, crashed shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. According to officials, shortly after taking off at 1:30 pm, the aircraft lost height. It smashed into BJ Medical College's residential buildings before catching fire and sending heavy black smoke clouds in the sky.
The pilots allegedly signalled a life-threatening problem with a "Mayday" call as soon as the takeoff, but they didn't reply to the warnings from airport traffic control.
A Black box of the aircraft was also found by the investigators on Friday on the roof of the medical college residence hall. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the injured people at the Ahmedabad civic hospital after visiting the crash site one day after the accident.
