Bangalore stampede case: Complaint filed against Virat Kohli, #arrestkohli trends

New Delhi (India) June 7: Cricketer Virat Kohli has been charged with a police complaint filed in Bengaluru on Friday in relation to the stampede that killed 11 people during an RCB felicitation ceremony near Chinnaswamy Stadium. A.M. Venkatesh registered the complaint on behalf of the Naija Horatagaarara Vedike at the Cubbon Park police station. The complaint which demands action against the famous cricket player, has been approved by the police. Venkatesh was told that the FIR was already registered in this same case and his complaint will be taken into consideration for inquiry.

Many X users questioned the cricketer's "humanity" for travelling to London without seeing the relatives of the victims. The hashtag #ArrestKohli is also going viral on social media platforms.

In their formal complaint about the stampede, the Karnataka Police claimed that the RCB franchise, the event management company DNA and the KSCA Administrative Committee had arranged the victory celebration without the required permission.

The complaint has resulted in the arrest of four people. The court of the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) has placed all four under judicial custody for 14 days.

These are Sumanth, Ticketing Operations Lead at DNA Entertainment Private Limited; Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager; Sunil Mathew, Vice President of Business Affairs; and Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue for RCB.

The FIR was filed in accordance with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita's Sections 105 (culpable homicide that does not amount to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 118(2) read with Section 3(5) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt, when the act is done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), 190 (unlawful assembly), 132 (criminal force to deter a public servant), 125(a) (filing false affidavit), and 125(b) (rash and negligent acts that endanger human life).

CM Siddaramaiah ordered the immediate arrest of key IPL officials, DNA, and the cricket body on Thursday night. The president, secretary and treasurer of the KSCA have been hiding since then. Their homes had been searched by police, but nothing was found.

The Karnataka High Court has granted three senior Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials protection from arrest till the next hearing on June 16. But the court has denied any relief to Nikhil Sosale, the RCB's jailed marketing chief.
