New Delhi (India) November 19: Out of the top spot ultimately on a brief managed - countryman Virat Kohli is hot at his heels for this one- during the latest installment, Rohit Sharma has slipped to No2 position in the ICC ODI batter's rankings and placed behind New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell.
Mitchell’s match-winning century pushes him past Rohit in ICC ODI rankings
Following an outstanding century against the West Indies, Mitchled was able to take over Rohit's previous rank to the number one spot, making him only the second New Zealander to do so. Mitchell scored his seventh ODI century in the first match of the series against West Indies that was sufficient for him to jump over Rohit Sharma at World No.1 without ever reaching there in 12 years career.
The century has taken Mitchell's rating to career-best of 782, but he is likely to drop back to No.2 after the ICC update next week. Key to the match-winning century in Christchurch, Mitchell picked a groin strain and said he won’t be playing the final two ODIs.
By way of context, a five rating-point gain equates to seven points in the Test bowling ranking - meaning that Mitchell will be less four points for missing both of those matches against West Indies and hence he is expected to fall behind next week's branding update.
Test rankings shake-up: Bavuma breaks into top five
Following the conclusion of the first Test between India and South Africa in Kolkata, several players from both sides have gone up in the latest Test rankings for batters. With an innings of 55 not out in the second innings of that match, Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has moved to the top five in the rankings for the first time in his career.
Pant drops out of top ten
India's wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has fallen out of the top 10 in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. Following a disappointing innings, where he scored only 29 runs in the first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Pant has dropped 4 places from 8th to 12th in the rankings. But India’s captain Shubman Gill has risen up to 11th in standings, despite him only scoring four runs before getting hurt.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other Indian to have lost two places and he occupies seventh position following a 50-run effort. He scored 22 in the final. He did not cover himself in glory in the first Test either with scores of 12 and 0 in both innings.
Bumrah leads Indian bowlers’ surge; Kuldeep and Jadeja achieve career-best positions
Jasprit Bumrah continued as the number one Test bowler by emancipating six wickets in his the first Test at Eden Gardens and made the biggest leap among Indian bowlers, his teammates Kuldeep Yadav (up two places to 13th, a career-best once again) and Ravindra Jadeja (up four slots to 15th) also making notable gains.
