Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar shifts to Chhatarpur home, awaits government-allocated residence
Jagdeep Dhankhar, the former vice president, left his government home and moved into a private home in Chhatarpur. He waits for his new government-allocated home.

New Delhi (India) September 2: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar left his official home almost 40 days after suddenly resigning from the position. The resignation was due to health concerns.
Temporary Stay in Chhatarpur
His government-allocated mansion is being prepared. Dhankar has temporarily moved into a private farmhouse in Chhatarpur, Delhi. It is owned by Abhay Chautala. He is a leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Dhankhar has been given a home by the government on the capital's APJ Abdul Kalam Road. The property needs major improvements. It will take around three months or so to complete the work.
Jagdeep Dhankar has however not yet made a formal housing request to the Urban Development Ministry.
As per tradition, Dhankhar left his official residence near Parliament House after resigning as vice president on July 21. This made room for his replacement. The new Vice President will be chosen on September 9. Originally, his term was scheduled to expire on August 10, 2027.
Political Career and Pension Plea
Dhankhar is also a former MLA from Rajasthan. He has asked for a pension. During his tenures in the Janata Dal, Congress and BJP, he served as both a union minister and an MP. He was the governor of West Bengal before being elected vice president.
After becoming the governor of West Bengal, Dhankhar stopped receiving the pension. He was elected vice president in 2022 but has since resigned from that position as well. The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Secretariat has reportedly started working on his plea.
Speculations Around Resignation
His sudden retirement has sparked a lot of curiosity. It is because vice presidents rarely resign in the middle of their terms. He resigned citing health reasons. Opposition parties and political analysts have questioned the real reasons behind the move. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh hinted that there might be "far deeper reasons" than those mentioned. He is implying that there might be internal conflicts or political pressure.
Sources close to Dhankhar claim that he is presently doing yoga, playing table tennis and spending time with his family.
The opposition candidate for the Vice President elections is B Sudershan Reddy. He is a former Supreme Court judge. Reddy will compete against NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan. He is the current governor of Maharashtra.
