Google Doodle marks Nowruz 2025: Celebrating 3,000 Years of Springs Tradition
Google Celebrates Nowruz 2025 with Special Visual by Artist Pendar Yousefi

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] March 20: Google is honouring Nowruz 2025 with a colourful Image sketched by guest artist Pendar Yousefi. The Persian New Year starts from March 20, 2025, from 5:01 AM EST (2:31 PM IST), which is also the time of flowering sunrise. "Nowruz" means "new beginning" in Persian, & the holiday has a long histories that goes back more than 3,000 years and has its way in Zoroastrianism and ancient Persian culture. It stands for growth, rebirth, and the win of light over danger.
About 300 million people in Iran, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the Caucasus, Turkey, and some parts of South Asia celebrate Nowruz. It is a time for new begins, reunions with relatives, and cultural events. Google says that the haft-sin table is an important part of Nowruz customs. It has a beautiful display of seven symbolic items, each beginning with the Persian letter "sin." Some of these foods are bean sprouts, which represent life, sweet wheat pudding represents power, olives represent love, fruit show the sunrise, vinegar means patience, apples mean beauty, and garlic means health.
Khaneh Tekani, or house cleaning, is a ritual which families do before Nowruz to make their homes and spirits clean for the new year. Chaharshanbe Suri was held on the last Wednesday before Nowruz. During this event, people jump over fires while singing chants that mean rebirth & life. This fire-jumping ritual is mean to cleanse the body & soul. People trade good wishes by saying things like "My paleness to you, your warmth to me." This ritual, which has full of meaning, gets everyone ready for a new beginning.
Nowruz is not just celebrated for one day,it's celebrated for 13 days, with the biggest celebrations taking place outside on Sizdah Bedar. On this day, families go outside for a meal and throw their Sabzeh (a symbol sprouts) into running water. This is thought to get rid of bad signs & bring good luck for the new year. Traditionally made foods like Kuku Sabzi, a herb frittata, & Sabzi Polo Ba Mahi, fish cooked in rice with herbs, are important parts of celebration meals.
The Haft-Sīn table which is a feast for the senses & represents the spirit of hope & renewal on holiday, shows how rich Nowruz is. Families set their tables with the seven things, which also include furnished eggs, mirrors, goldfish, and candles. Each of these was chosen to bring more light and happiness into the new year. Not only does the Haft-Sīn represent a lot and wealth, it is also a central part of the community's shared history and goals.
Nowruz builds bridges between different communities by telling us of the beauty of cultural differences in a world that is becoming more and more linked.
