Mumbai's Weather Rollercoaster: Mumbai Swings from Record Heat to Chilly Lows
Mumbai experiences a rare weather flip with extreme December highs and lows.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] December 9 : Mumbai experienced coldest climate on Monday as the temperatures dropped to 13.7°C near the Santacruz observatory. This was the lowest compared to the last lowest temperature which is 11.4°C on December 24, 2015with the present temperatures recorded as was 5.1°C below the seasonal norm of the month.
Heatwaves Days Before
The previous few days in Mumbai saw hottest December day in the past 13 years, reaching 37.3°C mercury levels on December 4. The weather in the city has seen sharp variations, showcasing the extremes of the winter season.
Colaba Observatory Shows Milder Readings
Colaba, another key monitoring point, registered a comparatively higher minimum of 19.2°C. The maximum temperatures remained moderate across the city, with Santacruz at 32.2°C, 0.9°C below normal, and Colaba reaching 30.3°C, 2.4°C below average.
Weather Predictions: Stability Ahead
Meteorologists forecast that these cooler temperatures are likely to persist for a few days before gradually rising. Mumbai residents can expect a stable yet chilly stretch as the winter season unfolds.
Improved Air Quality Brings Relief
Adding to the reprieve, the city’s air quality also showed improvement. The Central Pollution Control Board reported an air quality index of 112, with PM10 being the dominant pollutant. Out of the 30 monitoring stations, 20 reflected this improved status, providing a much-needed break from pollution concerns.
Mumbai’s unusual weather this December has brought a mix of discomfort and delight, with residents experiencing both blazing heat and winter chill in quick succession.
