PM Modi Holds Emergency Security Meet After Red Fort Blast; NIA Probes JeM Link, Delhi on High Alert
PM Modi convened high-level security meeting at his residence on Wednesday. The meeting comes in the wake of a powerful explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi that killed 13 people and injured another 20, two days earlier.
New Delhi (India) November 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited the LNJP hospital to meet those injured in the deadly deadly blast near red fort in national capital that killed 12 people. The Prime Minister rushed to LNJP hospital directly from the Delhi airport where he landed from Bhutan after the blast. He visited the wounded and spoke with them, wished them recovery. There, he was also briefed by officials and doctors at the hospital.
Cabinet Committee on Security Reviews Situation Amid Ongoing Probe
The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held upon his return from a state visit to Bhutan. The probe has already resulted in several arrests and the discovery of a substantial quantity of explosives, though some bomb-making material and a car are still missing and represent a major ongoing danger.
Images showed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah coming to Prime Minister Modi’s house at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, to be part of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting.
Blast considered a Terrorist Incident
On Wednesday, the Government described the blast outside Red Fort as a “terrorist incident”, which came to light during probe that Dr Umar Nabi, who was driving the explosives-packed car, intended to carry out strike here on December 6 with an aim of coinciding it with Babri Masjid demolition anniversary.
The mother of Dr Umar Un Nabi, who the police suspect was driving the i20 vehicle that exploded near Red Fort on November 10, had provided the samples earlier in the day which were collected by Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
JeM Module Behind Attack, NIA Forms Special Investigation Team
In a related development, the National Investigation Agency has constituted a special team to investigate the Delhi car blast that was carried out by the Jaish-e-Mohammad module - recently busted by Indian Security agencies. The squad, comprising senior stewards of SP and above rank, will probe the matter in a united manner.
The Delhi Police has been placed on high alert, and large checking drives are being conducted across the national capital in the wake of a powerful blast at the Red Fort metro station. Police jawans, besides para-military are manning at the entry and exit points in large numbers across Delhi. The vehicles moving in and out of the city are being checked in detail as part of heightened security.
Arrests and Ongoing Investigations
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case till now, including three doctors of Faridabad’s Al-Falah University who were held on Tuesday.
Officials said additional forensic testing and questioning was ongoing to try to establish the full size of the network, including whether the explosion was connected to a quantity of explosives seized earlier in the day.
The Horrific Red Fort Bomb Blast
At least 12 people were killed and about 20 injured when a powerful explosive went off in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car at the traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station here on November10.
The Red Fort blast, on a crowded Monday evening, took place hours after eight people -- including three doctors -- were arrested and 2,900 kg of explosives seized with the busting of a ``white collar’’ terror module driven by Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in an operation that spanned Kashmir to Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
