Nagpur Violence: 50 Arrested, 33 Cops Injured as Curfew Remains in Place

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] March 18: Nagpur is still anxious because of the curfew that was put in place after protests against the tomb of Mughal prince Aurangzeb turned violent.

1. In the Maharashtra assembly, Fadnavis said that 33 police officers received injuries in the violence, including three deputy commissioners of police, and that a knife was used to attack a top official.

2. Two days ago, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made a subtle insult at Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab. This led to an intense debate in the state legislative council between the government and opposition benches. Say, "Who is Aurangzeb?" Why should our state accept the praise of him? According to PTI, Shinde said, "He is a mark on our history."

3. Union minister Ramdas Athawale said that the movie "Chhaava" made people hate the Mughal king Aurangzeb in the 17th century. "People want to see Aurangzeb's death, and there is a movement going on." People are angry about how he killed Sambhaji Maharaj in the Chhaava movie, even though the tomb has been there for 500 years, Athawale said.

4. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad wants the people who were calm in Nagpur to be treated in the strictest way possible. Milind Parande, who is the general secretary of the VHP group, said that attacks and arson were done by "a section" of a certain community. "Many of the homes of Bajrang Dal workers from our youth wing were attacked... It is strongly against all of this that the Vishva Hindu Parishad says in an announcement.

5. Dilip Swami, the collector of Chhattrapati Sambhajinagar district, said that everything was "peaceful." He told them about the petition that members of the Bajrang Dal had sent in and said that police had been alerted.

6. The Shiv Sena Aaditya Thackeray, head of the UBT, talked  against the Mahayuti government and said the BJP was trying to make Maharashtra go through the same thing that took place in Manipur.

"Why didn't the CMO do anything when there were rumours of violence in Nagpur?" When something like this is about to happen, the first report goes to the state's chief minister and the home department. Couldn't they find out anything about this? ANI stated that Thackeray said, "I think the BJP wants to make Maharashtra the next Manipur."

7. Parties in criticism, such as the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party, and the TMC, have also said that the violence originated by the BJP."BJP had been trying for a long time to make people hate each other in Nagpur and all over Maharashtra." "India can't have peace as long as the BJP is in control," AAP MP Sanjay Singh said.

8. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the Nagpur Guardian Minister, said that social media was being utilised to make things more serious. He asked others not to make the issue political. PTI said that Bawankule met a review meeting with the police commissioner and district collector and also asked people from all the groups to get around.

9. The Nagpur Police said that more than 50 people were arrested in connection with the violence that came out in Nagpur on March 17 night. They are now looking through CCTV video and social media posts to find any other people who may have been involved.

10. Manoj Jarange, a Maratha quota advocate, said that the violence in Nagpur was "supported" by the Mahayuti government. He blamed CM Fadnavis for the chaos in the city.

Jarange was quoted by PTI as saying, "They (the government) safeguard Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's grave (which is in Chhatrapati Samabhajinagar district), but right-wing groups want it taken down."
