Hostel Privacy Shock: BTech Girl Detained at IIITDM Jabalpur
A serious privacy breach at a top Indian engineering college raises questions on student safety and trust inside hostels.

Madhya Pradesh [India], May 5: On a quiet Sunday evening, a fourth-year student at IIITDM Jabalpur gathered courage to report something unusual. She had doubts that her junior roommate might be doing something wrong inside their hostel. After sharing her concern with the warden, everything changed overnight. Her words led to a shocking discovery that disturbed the peaceful life of the college.
Student's Phone Reveals Objectionable Videos
After receiving the complaint, the hostel warden began checking all the mobile phones of girls living in the hostel. When the phone of the second-year BTech student was checked, one or two objectionable bathroom videos were found. These videos were suspected to be secretly recorded. The warden immediately informed the authorities for further action.
Institute Reacts with Serious Steps
Soon after the issue came to light, the in-charge director of IIITDM Jabalpur, Dr Aparajita Ojha, formed a committee. This team of three professors was asked to look into the matter deeply and give their report. The college is treating the issue with great seriousness and wants to take the right steps without delay. The student was also taken for questioning by the police.
Dumna Police Joins the Investigation
The Dumna police were informed on Sunday night itself. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Mr Suryakant Sharma, confirmed that the student had been detained. She is being questioned about the videos found on her phone. If needed, an FIR will be registered soon. The police are also trying to understand if more students were affected or if there is any bigger reason behind the act.
Students Shocked and Trust Shaken
This incident has shocked not just the students but also parents and teachers. Hostels are meant to be safe places. But when such things happen, students begin to feel unsafe in their own rooms. Many girls have come forward saying that strict checking and more rules are now needed. The college administration has promised to take stronger steps to make sure such cases do not happen again.
