New Delhi (India) July 8: In the United States, a family of four from Hyderabad died after their car caught fire when a truck crashed into it. The incident happened in Dallas while Tejaswini, Sree Venkat, and their two kids were on vacation.

The family had visited relatives in Atlanta last week and were on their way back to Dallas when a mini-truck that was travelling on the wrong side of the road collided with their car. All four of them were trapped inside their car when it instantly caught fire due to the impact.

According to authorities, the victims' bodies were so severely burned that the car was reduced to ashes.

Only bone pieces could be recovered from the wreckage by emergency personnel. The remains have been sent for forensic examination, and before they are given to the devastated family, DNA testing is being done to verify identification.

The Indian Consulate is coordinating with local law enforcement and US federal officials to make it easier for the remains to be recovered.

Official Mohan Nannapaneni said, “Local authorities briefed the family in Atlanta about crash, and further updates are expected once identification and repatriation processes are completed.”

The family had been residing in the United States for a while at Sutton Fields in Aubrey, close to Dallas. They had just spent a week in Atlanta visiting relatives. They were travelling by car this summer.

This most recent tragedy is part of an increasing number of deadly accidents in the United States that involve Indian nationals.

Most recently, two Indian students from Cleveland State University, Saurav Prabhakar and Manav Patel died in an accident in East Cocalico Township, New York, in May 2025. Their vehicle was captured on CCTV speeding off the road and colliding with a bridge and tree. A third traveler was hospitalized after suffering injuries.

Four Indians were killed near Anna, Texas in September 2024, after their SUV was rear-ended by a truck and caught fire.

In August 2024, a teenage son survived a Texas tragedy that claimed the lives of an Indian-origin wife and their daughter.

The Indian diaspora in the US is now more concerned about safety as a result of these frequent events, particularly in relation to careless driving and fatalities from car fires.

Dallas police have opened an investigation into the collision. There will likely be updates as the forensic identification procedure progresses.
