IIT, IIM Graduate Leaves High-Paying Job to Start Saree Brand

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] March 18: A entrepreneur who attended two of the best universities in India has talked candidly about why she left her rich corporate position to launch her own saree company.  Radhika Munshi is the creator of Anorah, a company that wants to change how modern women shop for sarees.

After attending the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, which almost ensure a ticket to a rich C-suite profession, Munshi shared in a series of Instagram postings why she decided to pursue an entrepreneurial path.

To entrepreneurship, IIT, IIM

Earlier last month, Munshi posted on Instagram, "I have two degrees, actually, from IIT and IIM, in case you were wondering."

As one of the top performers in her MBA program, she acknowledged that all she wanted was the best possible salary when she graduated.  At the time, she had no intention of launching her own saree company.

The founder of Anorah wrote, "At that time, I wanted the highest package because I was the top student at IIM Ahmedabad."  "But unexpected things happen in life, and I'm glad mine went this way."

"I chose to follow my dreams after pursuing the traditional Indian route of attending IIT and then IIM," she said.

Munshi asserts that the excitement of being an entrepreneur, where there is always a new task to overcome, surpasses even the best compensation package.  "An entrepreneur's life is full of ups and downs, and even the biggest pay cheque could never compare to the excitement that this journey offers," she wrote.

Resigning from a corporate position

Munshi had previously written on her own self-doubts and dealing with society's opinions about her job path.  After all, she left a stable, wealthy position to launch her own company.

When I quit my successful corporate position to start my own saree brand, I took a risk.  When I first started designing the sarees, I was really afraid.  She admitted, "I would question whether people would even enjoy my sarees."

"Unfortunately society has a very limited opinion on success," she wrote, expressing her candidness about critical opinions of her firm.

In 2023, Munshi launched her own company.  She has gradually seen success as a number of clients have come back to her for sarees.

However, the love I've experienced is quite strong.  We feel very proud when we receive the direct messages from our consumers expressing how much they adore our sarees," she says.
