IMD issues red alert as Mumbai gets waterlogged due to heavy rainfall
The IMD issues a red to orange alert as Mumbai floods due to heavy rainfall.Flight and train operations are affected.

New Delhi (India) May 26: In areas of Mumbai, heavy rainfall on Sunday evening and early Monday has caused serious waterlogging, which has impacted railway, air travel and caused traffic jams. Over the next three to four hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms,lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds throughout Mumbai.
The IndianMeteorological Department posted, "Light to moderate spell of rainfall is likely to continue over Mumbai and suburban areas during the next 3-4 hours."
"Orange to red colour warnings for moderate to heavy spells of rainfall with moderate thunderstorms with squally winds 50-60 kmph issued for Mumbai and suburban areas during the next 3 hours." on a social media post on X.
Sunday marked the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Maharashtra, marking the state's first early start to the yearly rainfall season in 35 years.
Due to heavy rains, local train service on Central Railway's Harbour line between Vadala Road and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) was suspended.
The Central Railway had track flooding at the Masjid, Byculla, Dadar, Matunga, and Badlapur railway stations, which caused delays for trains during morning rush hours and disturbed passengers.
The airlines also issued an advisory for the passengers travelling through the Mumbai airport.
Air India said, "We encourage our passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport to ensure a smooth travel experience."
SpiceJet said that all departures and arrivals, as well as the corresponding flights, may be impacted due to the terrible weather (heavy rain) in Mumbai (BOM).
IndiGo stated, "Due to heavy rains in Mumbai, several flights have been impacted, and we deeply regret any disruptions to your travel plans. We are doing everything possible to manage the situation and minimise the delays. We're all hands on deck to ensure that you reach your destination safely and as quickly as possible. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any immediate concerns or need assistance, our airport team is present at all touch points to help you."
Traffic movement was also hampered in South Mumbai as a section of a road collapsed.
