NIRF Rankings 2025: Hindu College Tops, IISc Bengaluru Leads Universities, IIT Madras Retains Overall No. 1 Spot

Ministry of Education has announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework, or NIRF Ranking 2025. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the India rankings.

New Delhi (India) September 4: The 2025 NIRF India Rankings were published by the Ministry of Education. The top college in India is Hindu College in Delhi. The results were revealed by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Kirori Mal, Hans Raj, Miranda House, and St. Stephen's are some other top colleges.

The NIRF rankings for this year mark the tenth edition. They include nine major categories: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Open Universities, State Public Universities, Innovation, Research Institutions, Colleges and Overall Universities. There are eight fields which are also ranked: Architecture & Planning, Law, Dentistry, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medicine, and Agriculture & Allied Sciences.

The five primary criteria used to rank institutions are Research & Professional Practice (RPC), Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) and Perception

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) sets these guidelines. NIRF rankings take into account teaching quality, research, and innovation. This is to inform students, parents, and policymakers about higher education in India. 

Law Rankings: NLSIU Bengaluru Retains No. 1, NLU Delhi Second 

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has been ranked as one of India's top law schools. The National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi); and the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR), Hyderabad and The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata all hold the second, third, and fourth position respectively.

Top Colleges 2025: Hindu College, Miranda House, Hans Raj Lead the Charts

The top ten colleges are mostly from Delhi University. Some are from Kolkata and Coimbatore. Hindu College is first. It is followed by Miranda House, Hans Raj, Kirori Mal, St. Stephen’s, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College, St. Xavier’s, PSGR Krishnammal, and PSG College of Arts & Science.

Top medical institutes of 2025 are AIIMS, Delhi, PGIMER, Chandigarh, CMC, Vellore, JIPMER, Puducherry and SGPIMS, Lucknow.

Top universities of 2025 are IISc, Bengaluru, JNU, New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, University of Delhi, New Delhi, BHU, Varanasi, BITS, Pilani, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.

Overall Institutes: IIT Madras, IISc Bengaluru, IIT Bombay Take Top Spots

Top overall institutes list are IIT Madras, IISc Bengaluru, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, AIIMS, Delhi, JNU, New Delhi and BHU, Varanasi.
