2 Dead in Delhi Transport Corporation Bus Crash in Nangloi, Mob Sets Bus on Fire

The fatal crash led to residents reportedly setting it on fire and vandalising nearby vehicles following the fatal crash, police reported.

How the Nangloi Accident Happened

The DTC bus in the first instance struck a young man on a scooter, killing him on the spot, police said. The vehicle also crashed into an e-rickshaw and a number of pedestrians that killed and injured several others, the report said

The wounded victims were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Angry Crowd Sets Bus on Fire

The crash caused widespread outrage among locals who gathered at the scene in the area soon after the crash. The crowd threw rocks at the bus, damaged nearby vehicles, and eventually set the DTC bus on fire, according to reports.

Officials from Delhi Fire Services said they received an emergency call around 10 a.m. about the burning bus.

 Firefighters raced to the spot and found the vehicle in flames. The blaze was brought under control by about 11 am and authorities towed away the burnt bus. 

Police have now opened an investigation into the accident and the ensuing violence.

Rising Concerns Over DTC Bus Accidents

DTC bus accidents are on the rise. Public transport bus road accidents have been an increasing issue in the capital. Around 150 bus accidents were recorded in Delhi in 2024–25, including 40 fatal crashes, as per reports.

These accidents included 97 of those in which DTC buses were involved, resulting in 21 deaths and injuries to passengers, as well as pedestrians, according to reports.

The reasons behind such incidents, experts say, are:

Overspeeding. 

Traffic rule violations. 

Lack of dedicated bus lanes. 

Poor driver training. 

Mechanical faults in vehicles.

Situation Under Control

Authorities are currently monitoring the situation in Nangloi to prevent further unrest. Police have urged residents to remain calm as the investigation continues.
