IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai After Midair Engine Failure

New Delhi (India) July 17: One of the engines on an Indigo flight from Delhi to Goa failed on Wednesday. This caused it to land in Mumbai amid a complete emergency.

An IndiGo spokesperson said, "Following procedures, the aircraft was diverted and landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai."

Emergency Landing Executed Safely

According to sources, the plane touched down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai around 9:42 p.m. At 9:25 p.m., the pilot sounded an alert.

According to an IndiGo spokesperson, aircraft 6E 6271 experienced a technical issue on the way from Delhi to Manohar International Airport in Goa.

An IndiGo official said, “A technical snag was detected on flight 6E 6271 while flying from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa on 16 July 2025. Following procedures, the aircraft was diverted and landed in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai.”

The plane was operating as flight 6E 6271. The aircraft made a safe landing. There were 191 passengers present in the flight.

At the time of the incident, the Airbus A320neo, registered VT-IZB, was traveling from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to Goa Airport.

According to Mumbai airport officials, the incident happened while the plane was approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar.

Alternate Plane Arranged for Passengers

The official also said that the aircraft was undergoing the required inspections and repairs before it could resume operations. A substitute aircraft was set up for the rest of the trip.

He said, “While the aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations, an alternative aircraft has been arranged for completing the journey, which will depart shortly with the customers. We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to this unforeseen situation. At IndiGo, safety and security of the customers, crew and aircraft is of utmost importance.”

According to sources, fire engines and ambulances were positioned on standby in accordance with usual operating procedures. They followed the plane to the port.

Emergency Protocols Activated

An Airport official said, “The pilot declared ‘PAN PAN PAN’ due to a malfunction in engine number 1.”

A PAN call indicates a serious but non-immediate threat. It is one level below a Mayday call. These circumstances include complete engine failure, fire or any mishap that compromises the aircraft's integrity and safety.
