Andre Russell, an all-rounder for the West Indies is set to retire from international cricket after the first two Twenty20 Internationals against Australia.

New Delhi (India) July 17: According to the West Indies cricket board, Andre Russell will retire from international cricket. He will play his last game in the T20 series against Australia.

Final Match at Home Ground Sabina Park

The first two games of the series will take place at Russell's home field, Sabina Park in Jamaica. The games are scheduled for July 20 and 22. The second T20 will be his last game.

Russell's retirement was announced barely seven months before the men's T20I World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The news also comes immediately after Nicholas Pooran's retirement from the game. Russell has 84 caps. He was a member of the Windies team that won the T20 World Cups in 2012 and 2016.

The Windies Cricket account praised the player for his outstanding work over the years. They also thanked him for his service in a moving post on X.

The Board posted, "Thank you,Andre Russell. From the moment you stepped onto that field in maroon, you didn’t just play—you ignited. Power. Passion. Pride. You gave us everything. This isn’t just One Last Dance — it’s the legacy of a warrior." 

Russell said that his 15 years of playing for the West Indies was one of his greatest life accomplishments. The all-rounder said he was happy to be retiring in front of his home fans and to be leaving on a positive note.

Russell said, “Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life. When I was a kid, I did not expect to get to this level, but the more you start to play and get to love the sport, you realize what you can achieve. This inspired me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and become an inspiration to others.”

A Glorious Journey

Russell only participated in one Test match during his whole international career. During his 56 ODI matches, he scored 1,034 runs with a strike rate of over 130 and an average of 27.21. His highest score in ODIs was 92 not out. He scored four half-centuries. In the format, he also took 70 wickets. His best performance with the ball being 4/35.

Since 2019, Russell has only participated in T20I matches for the West Indies. He has played in 84 games. He has scored 1,078 runs at a strike rate of 163.08 and an average of 22.00. His greatest score was 71. 

Russell has scored three half-centuries. He has taken 61 wickets with the ball at an average of 30.59. His 3/19 being his best stats.

Star Performer in Global T20 Leagues

He has participated in 561 matches in major T20 leagues all over the world. He has scored 9,316 runs at an average of 26.39 and a strike rate of over 168, making him a significant player. 

His highest score was 121 not out. He has two hundreds and thirty-three fifties. He has taken 485 wickets at an average of 25.85 as a bowler. His best performance was 5/15.
