Ishant Sharma Faces BCCI Action in IPL 2025 for Code Breach
As per their Code of Conduct, Ishant was fined 25% of his match fees

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] April 07: At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Ishant Sharma had a day he would want to forget. Playing for Gujarat Titans, he gave away 53 runs without taking a single wicket. With no success in his first three matches, things got worse. His frustration during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad caught the attention of officials and soon became a matter of concern.
Strict Action by the BCCI
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not take things lightly. As per their Code of Conduct, Ishant was fined 25% of his match fees. Along with this, he received one demerit point. This was a clear message that no matter the experience or fame of the player, discipline must be maintained on the field.
What Exactly Went Wrong?
As per the IPL statement, Ishant accepted his mistake. He was charged under Article 2.2 of the Code, which talks about misuse of cricket equipment or causing damage during a match. This could mean actions like kicking stumps or hitting walls out of anger. Such behaviour, even if unintentional, goes against the spirit of the game.
History of Discipline in IPL
This is not the first time a player has been penalised in the IPL. In the past too, players like Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have faced similar actions for emotional outbursts. The IPL follows international cricket rules strictly. The main aim is to make sure that cricket remains a gentleman’s game, even when matches get heated.
Gujarat Titans Shine Despite Drama
While Ishant struggled, the Gujarat Titans had a good outing. Mohammed Siraj took 4 wickets and helped restrict Hyderabad to just 152 runs. Then, Captain Shubman Gill scored a strong 61 not out, leading his team to an easy win. This marked Gujarat's third win in four games, showing how team efforts can still shine even when one player faces trouble.
