Israel Iran Conflict: EAM Jaishankar held talks with ministers of the nations amid growing tensions

New Delhi (India) June 15: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with his Israeli and Iranian colleagues, Dr. Abbas Araghchi and Gideon Sa'ar, on Friday, June 13, 2025, amidst the growing tensions of the Israel-Iran conflict. India has strategic partnerships with both Israel and Iran, and in recent years, Indian officials have maintained regular communication with the foreign ministers of both warring nations.

EAM Jaishankar posted, "Received a call this afternoon from FM @gidonsaar of Israel regarding ongoing developments,” after he received a call from Israel's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa'ar.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi just before the minister-level phone conversation. In order for India's economy and security framework to function, PM Modi had demanded the "early restoration of peace" and stability in the Gulf. Mr. Jaishankar conveyed the "deep concern of the international community at the turn of events" during the phone conversation with Mr. Araghchi.

In the statement, the Indian Embassy in Tehran said, "He urged an early return to diplomacy and avoidance of any escalatory steps.”

EAM Jaishankar also posted, "Spoke to Iranian FM @araghchi this evening on the latest situation” after having a conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.

According to the Indian Embassy, the Iranian Foreign Minister "shared Iran's perspective on the situation." The discussion took place hours after Israel struck targets inside Iran, including nuclear energy research facilities. Iran quickly launched three rounds of drones and missiles as part of what it called "Operation True Promise."

In a statement, Randhir Jaiswal, the Ministry of External Affairs' official spokesperson, voiced concern about the Iran-Israel situation.

He said, “We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites. India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues. India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support. Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories.”

India said it is "deeply concerned" about the recent developments between the two countries and is "closely monitoring" the changing situation. Israel's strikes on Iran's nuclear, missile, and military complexes have increased tension in West Asia.
