Jasprit Bumrah Creates History At Lords, Surpasses Kapil Dev in Most Overseas Five-Wicket Hauls for India

New Delhi (India) July 12: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah broke the record held by legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian away from home.

FIVE WICKET HAUL AT LORDS

On Day 2 of the third Test match against England, Bumrah recorded his 15th five-wicket haul. It makes him the 15th Indian bowler to have his name on the Lord's honours board.

He also took five wickets away from home for the thirteenth time. He beat Kapil Dev (12) in the list. In the first session on Day 2, Bumrah helped India regain the game by breaking through England's top order with an outstanding spell.

Bumrah now shares Imran Khan's record of five wickets taken by an Asian in the nation (4). Muthiah Muralidaran is in first place. He has five five-fors.

Bumrah's exceptional spell helped India bowl out England for 387 in the opening innings.

NO BIG CELEBRATION

Bumrah did not celebrate in a big way in spite of everything. He was actually quite hesitant to even raise his hand with the ball. It is a traditional celebration that bowlers make after taking five wickets in an innings.

Mohammed Siraj, his fast bowling partner, grabbed Bumrah's hand. He loudly raised it for the audience when Bumrah failed to celebrate the moment.

Bumrah said, “The reality is that I was tired. There was no happiness factor. I bowled for a long time on the field, and sometimes I get tired” regarding the lack of celebration.

He added, “I'm not 21-22 anymore that I'll jump around. I'm usually not like that. I was happy that I contributed. Other than that, I just wanted to go back to my mark and bowl the next ball.”

PRAISES BY COACHES

Bumrah's efforts in the first innings were also praised by bowling coach Morne Morkel and Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir was observed patiently waiting for Bumrah close to the Honours Board after he entered the pavilion.

The Indian coach gave Bumrah a hug when he got there. Bumrah eventually had his name listed on the Honours Board. He signed it there to complete the formality. He also gave a big thumbs up and posed for the cameras.

First, Bumrah took the wicket of Ben Stokes. He was batting at 44 runs. Joe Root was dismissed for the eleventh time in his Test career by Bumrah. He got out at 104 runs. He also took the wickets of Harry Brook, Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer.

This is the first time that Bumrah has taken five wickets at Lords. This is his fourth overall five wicket haul in England.
