Multiple Blasts and explosions heard in Lahore and Karachi; investigations begin

New Delhi(India) May 8: Emergency services responded quickly after three explosions shook Walton Road in Lahore in quick succession, causing considerable panic. A police barricade was put in place and investigations are still underway to find out what caused the blasts, which were heard kilometers away and happened close to the sensitive Gulberg district.

According to Lahore Police, the explosions happened just a few seconds apart. People who were many kilometers away heard the bombs so loudly that they hurried to the streets in terror and confusion.

Rescue and firefighting units are among the emergency reaction teams that have arrived at the scene of the incident. Additionally, the area has been restricted by the police.

Officials stated that investigations had begun to identify the type and origin of the blasts. As bomb disposal and intelligence teams begin their initial examination, the authorities have blocked the area and prevented people with no connection from entering.

According to local media, gunshots were reported in Lahore hours after several explosions occurred in the city on Thursday morning, followed by explosives in Karachi.

Three explosions on Walton Road this morning in Lahore, the largest city in Pakistan's Punjab province, sent people into a panic and they ran from their homes to safety. The explosion also injured four Pakistani army men.

There was an explosion in Karachi's Sharafi Goth area of Malir.

Images circulated by the local media showed a state of panic in Lahore, with residents leaving their houses and gathering on the streets out of terror. Three successive explosions were heard on Walton Road in the city, and smoke clouds covered the sky.

Due to border tensions, a number of commercial air routes in Lahore and Sialkot were temporarily closed earlier today. On Thursday, the two airports won't be open for business until noon.
