Direct Attack on Rahul Gandhi's 'Falsehoods'
Union Home Minister Amit Shah attacked the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreading falsehoods on farm issues and challenging him to a public debate on the recent trade agreements.
He said, “I am telling the farmers from this platform today that Rahul Gandhi is lying to them. Modiji protected the farmers in both trade deals (EU and US trade deals). This is dairy land, and Rahul Gandhi is lying about it. The Congress government and its leadership constantly mislead the public with lies.”
“Congress prince Rahul Gandhi speaks about farmers in Parliament. How much grain did you purchase from farmers during the 10 years of the UPA regime? We purchased 15 times more grain than you at MSP. During the UPA regime, the budget for farmers was Rs 26,000 crore, which Modiji increased to Rs 1,29,000 crore. You misled farmers by dangling the carrot of loan waivers once in 70 years. Modiji has implemented a system to save farmers from loans by transferring 6,000 rupees to every farmer's bank account for 10 years,” he added.
Reviving Dunkel Proposal Criticism
He went on to attack the previous Congress-led government over the Dunkel proposal.
He said, “You harmed the farmers by signing the Dunkel proposal during the Manmohan Singh government. In 2014, the people of India said goodbye to you, and then Modiji came and changed that agreement. You opened the agricultural market to the entire world, but Modiji went and reversed your efforts. Even today Modiji stands like a rock for the welfare of farmers.”
CBDC PDS Launch and Broader Welfare Gains
Mr Shah denied the opposition’s claims by saying the interests of farmers, cattle rearers, and fishermen are protected under both the India-US trade deal and the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
The Minister said the new digital token-based distribution system would prevent corruption in the Public Distribution System, while bringing the delivery process real transparency which was so desperately needed.
Mr Shah also pointed to the government’s commitment to pro-poor initiatives over the past 10 years, noting 27 crore people have now crossed the poverty line in relation to those efforts.
