“None of our business” says US Vice President Vance as tensions escalate between India and Pakistan

New Delhi (India) May 9: US Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that the present situation is "none of America's business" and shut down any direct involvement from the US in the face of rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

Vance highlighted in an interview with Fox News that the US would not intervene militarily, but would support de-escalation through diplomacy.

He said that,"What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit. But we're not going to get involved in the middle of a war that’s fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America’s ability to control it.”

Vance added, "America can't tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can't tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. So we're going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels. Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict. Right now, we don’t think that’s going to happen,"

But I think the job of diplomacy, but also the job of cooler heads in India and Pakistan is to make sure this doesn't become a nuclear war. If it happened of course it would be disastrous. Right now we don't think that's going to happen," he also added.

He continued by saying that, "What Secretary Rubio said and certainly the President has said is we want this thing to de-escalate as quickly as possible. We can't control these countries though. Fundamentally India has its gripes with Pakistan.”

Vance's statements came with Pakistan's failed attempt to attack bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and many other places.

In April, Vance made his first trip to India on his most recent visit. His family was with him, including Usha Vance, his wife of Indian origin. His visit took place at the same time as the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people.

In response for the April 22 terror attack that claimed 26 lives in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India began Operation Sindoor early on Wednesday, attacking nine terror targets in Pakistan's Punjab region and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
