Operation Trashi: Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar; three terrorists trapped

New Delhi (India) May 22: The J&K Police announced on Thursday morning that there had been a gunfight between security forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir. According to local sources, the encounters are thought to have killed two terrorists.

After the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary forces launched a joint cordon and search operation, police sources stated that they believe three to four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists are trapped in the area.

'Operation Trashi' was the codename for the combined operation, which saw the deployment of additional forces when the gunfight broke out. In an X post, the Army's White Knight Corps stated that efforts are underway to eliminate the terrorists.

After a search operation in Singhpora Chatroo by the soldiers of two Para SF, the Army's 11RR, 7th Assam rifles, and SOG Kishtwar, the confrontation started at around seven in the morning.

According to initial reports, security forces are thought to have caught a group of three to four terrorists, including Saifullah, in the Chattroo jungles.

As a precaution, every point of entry to the encounter site has been sealed off, and more troops have been brought in.

The joint security forces' intelligence-based operation came one week after anti-terror operations in south Kashmir killed six terrorists, including three members of the Jaish e Mohammed group.

The encounters happened on Tuesday in the Nadar area of Tral in Pulwama and on Thursday in the Keller area of Shopian.

The security measures in South Kashmir, including these ongoing counterterrorism operations, are in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22,in which 26 innocent people, mostly tourists, were murdered by the terrorists supported by Pakistan.

After discussions between the directors general of military operations of the two sides on May 10, the tensions came to an end with a ceasefire agreement to end all military activities.
