Pakistan nominates US President Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize 2026

New Delhi (India) June 21: Soon after Pakistan nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, US President Donald Trump intensified his calls for the treasured honour. Trump stated he should have earned four or five prizes by now. He claimed that he has played important diplomatic roles in a number of international conflict zones, such as the Congo-Rwanda and India-Pakistan conflicts.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry had earlier said, “President Donald J. Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis” in a post on social media platform X.

Mr. Trump was asked about the Nobel Prize and he said that he should receive it for a number of reasons, including his work on India and Pakistan and the treaty he stated will be signed on Monday to put an end to the conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

He said, "They should give me the Nobel Prize for Rwanda and if you look, the Congo, or you could say Serbia, Kosovo, you could say a lot of them. The big ones are India and Pakistan. I should have gotten it four or five times.”

Mr. Trump has complained that he will not receive a Nobel Peace Prize for his contributions in the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran disputes, or for "stopping" the war between India and Pakistan.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social account that "no matter what I do, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize." He began his post by saying that he is "extremely pleased" to announce that, in collaboration with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he has negotiated a "wonderful" treaty between Rwanda and Congo in their conflict, which was characterized by "violent bloodshed and death, more so even than most other Wars, and has gone on for decades.”

India has continuously insisted that direct discussions between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two forces led to the agreement to end hostilities with Pakistan.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee chooses the winners of the Nobel Peace Prize each year based on their work advancing peace and resolving disputes. The committee has never discussed Trump's campaign in public.
