PM Modi: Protect Roti, Beti, and Maati in Jharkhand
Jharkhand Election Spotlight: Protecting Tribal Identity, Livelihood, and Culture
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Sarath, Deoghar district, raised an alarming issue—the dwindling tribal population in Santhal. He stated that infiltration has reduced their population by half. He appealed to the people of Jharkhand to stand united in safeguarding their families and tribal identity, stressing that it is their responsibility to protect their heritage.
The Historical Richness of Jharkhand
Jharkhand, known as the "Land of Forests," has always held a special place in India’s cultural landscape. The state is home to diverse tribal communities, each with a unique identity and traditions. However, history reveals that external influences and infiltration have often threatened this delicate cultural fabric.
Election Issues: Roti, Beti, and Maati
At the rally, Modi emphasised that this election revolves around three critical pillars—roti (livelihood), beti (family), and maati (land). He accused the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress government of enabling infiltrators to settle permanently in the state, thereby taking away resources and opportunities meant for locals. This, he claimed, jeopardises the very foundation of the tribal way of life.
Accusations Against the JMM-Congress
Modi blamed the JMM-Congress coalition for failing to protect the interests of Jharkhandis. He alleged that the government made infiltrators permanent residents, allowing them to secure jobs meant for locals. He criticised their court admissions about infiltration, calling it a betrayal of the people.
Tribal Representation and Reservation
Highlighting tribal representation, Modi pointed to the BJP's decision to appoint a tribal woman, Droupadi Murmu, as India’s President. He criticised the Congress for opposing her election, accusing them of consistently undermining tribal interests. He further alleged that Congress intends to dismantle reservation systems for Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Protecting Jharkhand’s Identity
Modi's speech reiterated the urgency of preserving Jharkhand's cultural identity. He referred to a "huge conspiracy" aimed at eroding the state's unique character. According to him, this election is a fight to secure not just livelihoods but also the dignity and identity of every Jharkhandi.
A Vision for Jharkhand’s Future
Promising action, Modi assured voters that the BJP would protect their jobs, family values, and ancestral land. His appeal resonated with the ongoing concern for sustainable development while preserving Jharkhand's tribal culture. For many, this election is not just political—it’s deeply personal.
