New Delhi (India) September 18: Rahul Gandhi is the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. He intensifies his criticism of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Thursday. He says that by withholding information about the deletion of voters in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, he is supporting "murderers" of democracy.

Rahul Gandhi cites Aland case where over 6,000 votes were targeted for deletion
Rahul Gandhi claims that voter deletions target booths where Congress is in the lead and are not random. He asserts that an attempt was made to remove 6,018 votes from the Karnataka constituency of Aland. It is probably a small portion of the total. He brings up the example of Godabai- a woman whose name was apparently used to forge login credentials. This is in order to remove 12 voters without her knowledge.

Karnataka CID sent 18 unanswered letters seeking OTP and IP details
The Congress leader also says that during the previous 18 months, the CID had written to the election body 18 times. They ask for IP addresses and OTP information, but no one has replied.
He asserts that the Election Commission never gives a substantive response to the 18 letters that Karnataka CID sent over the course of 18 months. They are asking for information about the voter deletion scheme. According to Rahul Gandhi, the last reminder was delivered in September 2025.
The Election Commission is not answering the Karnataka CID's questions. Rahul Gandhi claims this is, "because these details will lead us to where this centralised operation is taking place."
Rahul Gandhi handed the CEC a week to provide evidence to the Karnataka CID. He accuses him of protecting the accused people while attacking the constitution.
Gandhi demands that the Election Commission of India must provide information on the OTPs and mobile numbers involved in the scandal within a week. He adds that if CEC fails then it will be shown that the CEC is "actively protecting the vote chors (thieves)."
Election Commission denies allegations
The Election Commission of India (EC) responded to Rahul Gandhi's news conference on Thursday. They call his claims that chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was protecting individuals engaged in voter deletion frauds "baseless and incorrect.”
