PM Modi Targets Congress Over 2013 Waqf Law Changes
Politics, Power, and the Waqf Puzzle: PM Modi’s Strong Words

Haryana [India] April 14: At a gathering in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised sharp questions against the Congress party. He spoke about how the 2013 changes to the Waqf Act were done quickly, just before elections. He said the law was changed not to help people but to gather votes. The Prime Minister made it clear that politics should be about service, not only winning elections.
Call for Equal Representation in Leadership
PM Modi didn’t stop at criticising the law. He also challenged Congress on its leadership choices. “If Congress truly cares for Muslims,” he said, “why don’t they appoint a Muslim as their party chief?” He went further and asked the party to give 50% of its election tickets to Muslims, showing the need for fair opportunities for all communities, not just vote-bank promises.
Concerns Over Waqf Land Usage
Modi pointed out that the Waqf board owns lakhs of hectares of land in India. He said that this land could have helped poor families, children, and women. Instead, he claimed it was misused. He mentioned how Pasmanda Muslims and many others were ignored while only a few powerful people benefitted. The Prime Minister said the land mafia looted what should have been a public good.
Struggles of Common People Must Be Heard
Speaking with emotion, PM Modi said, “If the land was used honestly, Muslim youth wouldn't be stuck doing small jobs like fixing punctures.” He stressed that real development must reach every poor home, every young person. Modi also said that widows wrote to the government about the misuse of land. Their pain was ignored until a proper debate finally started on the issue.
Debate Over Ambedkar and Historical Respect
In response, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge spoke in Delhi about B.R. Ambedkar and how he was disrespected in the past. Kharge said Ambedkar was opposed by many when he became a Buddhist. He also mentioned that Hindu Mahasabha didn’t support him. These statements came as a counter after PM Modi accused Congress of not respecting the Constitution and insulting Ambedkar’s legacy.
