5th June 2023, Mumbai: Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, is on the verge of signing Lionel Messi, the highly sought-after free agent of this summer transfer window. Despite competition from his childhood club FC Barcelona and Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, Messi has been drawn to Miami due to a unique offer that was not on the table for the other teams.
According to a report from the Athletic, Apple and Adidas have played a role in enticing Messi to the USA. The offer includes a share of revenues generated through Messi’s participation in the MLS. Apple has offered him a percentage of the revenue generated from new subscribers to the MLS Season Pass after his signing, while Adidas has offered him a portion of any increase in their profits resulting from his involvement in the American market.
Although FC Barcelona made efforts to bring Messi back to the club, they were unable to reach a favorable deal during negotiations. In a heartfelt message, Barcelona wished Messi the best of luck in his future endeavors. The club released an official statement expressing their understanding and respect for Messi’s decision to join Inter Miami, stating that both the club and Messi desired his return to Barcelona but acknowledged his desire to compete in a league with fewer demands and away from the spotlight and pressure he had experienced in recent years.
