20th June 2023,Mumbai: In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been making significant strides in transforming various industries, and the field of human resources (HR) is no exception. A new report has revealed that more than half of the tech HR employees surveyed rely on an AI chatbot called ChatGPT to streamline their tasks, resulting in improved efficiency and time savings. The report, which polled 213 tech HR professionals and 792 tech employees, sheds light on the impact of AI in the HR landscape of the tech industry.

The utilization of AI chatbots like ChatGPT has expanded across multiple HR functions. The survey showed that tech HR employees have employed ChatGPT for a range of tasks, including training, surveys, performance reviews, recruiting, and employee relations. Astonishingly, more than one in 10 tech HR employees even admitted to using ChatGPT in crafting employee terminations. This indicates the growing confidence in AI technology to handle sensitive and critical HR processes.

One of the most compelling findings of the report is that HR employees reported saving an average of approximately 70 minutes per week by leveraging ChatGPT. The chatbot’s ability to automate routine tasks and provide quick responses to inquiries has significantly enhanced productivity in HR departments. This time savings allows HR professionals to focus on strategic initiatives and higher-value activities that contribute to the overall growth and development of the organization.

While ChatGPT has emerged as a valuable tool, it is not the only technology reshaping HR in the tech industry. The report highlights several other tech tools that have proven indispensable in the HR domain. Payroll software was deemed the most useful by 54 percent of respondents, followed by background check software (42 percent), HR analytics and reporting (41 percent), and time and attendance systems (40 percent). These tools contribute to streamlining administrative tasks, improving data accuracy, and optimizing HR operations.

The report also delves into the perception of AI’s impact on employment within small businesses. Approximately 44 percent of small business owners expressed a belief that they would hire fewer people in the future due to the capabilities of AI. However, the findings from Canada-based software company FreshBooks indicate a different perspective. The survey revealed that two-thirds of small business owners disagreed with the notion that AI would replace them or their employees, suggesting a more optimistic outlook on the integration of AI technology.

In fact, nearly 25 percent of small business owners stated that they are currently using or testing generative AI tools, including ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Microsoft Bing. This demonstrates the willingness of small businesses to embrace AI technologies to enhance their operations and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

Overall, the report provides a comprehensive overview of the role of AI chatbots, specifically ChatGPT, in revolutionizing HR practices within the tech industry. The findings highlight the tangible benefits of employing AI technology, including time savings, increased efficiency, and improved employee experiences. As the adoption of AI continues to grow, it is crucial for organizations to strike a balance between leveraging the capabilities of AI tools and maintaining a human-centric approach to HR. With the right integration and careful consideration, AI chatbots like ChatGPT can truly reshape the future of HR in the tech industry.
