6th June 2023, Mumbai: Apple has announced its plans to enhance the autocorrect feature on iPhones, specifically targeting one of the most common swear words that often gets changed to “ducking.” While users have the option to disable autocorrect, the keyboard’s default settings automatically modify certain words. Craig Federighi, Apple’s software boss, acknowledged the inconvenience and revealed that the company will be improving the feature. He made this announcement at Apple’s developers’ conference held in California.

The autocorrect feature on iPhones is designed to suggest appropriate replacements for misspelled words while texting, but it can sometimes unintentionally alter the intended meaning of a message. This has led iPhone users to become frustrated with having to manually correct their own messages. In fact, the phrase “damn you autocorrect” has become a popular acronym, a meme, and has even inspired an Instagram account and a song.

Apple’s improvements to the autocorrect function will be driven by artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The aim is for autocorrect to become more accurate in predicting the user’s intended words and phrases by learning from their regular usage, including instances of swearing. This will be made possible through a transformer model, an AI system that learns contextual relationships in data using mathematical techniques. By leveraging AI, Apple aims to enhance the autocorrect feature’s ability to understand and accurately predict the user’s intended text.
