"We Don’t Just See Runs Here...": VVS Laxman’s Words After Seeing Vaibhav Suryavanshi Crying
"We Look for Skill for the Long Run": How VVS Laxman Uplifted Vaibhav

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] April 29: During a youth tournament held by BCCI, a young player named Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar caught the attention of cricket legend VVS Laxman. Vaibhav had performed well in his district tournament and was picked for a bigger platform. This was his first big step into the national scene, and he didn’t even know someone great was watching closely.
A Tough Day and a Soft Voice
In one match, Vaibhav was run out after scoring just 36 runs. He walked back in tears and sat quietly in the dressing room. It was then that Laxman walked up to him and spoke kindly. He told Vaibhav that it’s not just about runs, but about long-term skill. This one sentence gave the young boy new confidence and belief.
From Words to Support by Big Names
VVS Laxman didn’t stop after giving advice. He personally watched Vaibhav’s growth and later recommended him to Rahul Dravid, Rajasthan Royals’ coach. With Dravid’s support and the BCCI’s backing, Vaibhav slowly climbed the ladder. He got a chance in the IPL and was picked by Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.1 crore, a big amount for a 14-year-old from Bihar.
The First Match and a Six That Shocked All
On April 19, in Jaipur, Vaibhav played his first IPL match. Facing a fast bowler, he hit the very first ball for a six. The crowd cheered, but he stayed calm. Even though he got out for 34, his fearless start surprised everyone. When he walked off, he again had tears. People began to remember his name.
A Record-Breaking Century at Just 14
On April 28, Vaibhav played like a star. He scored 100 runs in just 35 balls, hitting 11 sixes and 7 boundaries. It was the fastest century by an Indian in IPL and second-fastest ever. Along with Jaiswal, he helped Rajasthan Royals chase 210 runs in only 15.5 overs. The same boy who once cried in the dressing room had now made cricket history.
