Will Rain Ruin Your Kedarnath Trip Plans? Trek Route Closed After Landslides

Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand) [India] June 15:  The Kedarnath Dham Yatra has been stopped after landslides near Junglechatti and Bhimbali made the trek dangerous. Pilgrims were stopped at Sonprayag as debris from falling rocks blocked the path. Officials say the route is not safe yet. Rescue teams are working hard to clear the way. Till then, pilgrims are asked to stay in nearby safe places and wait for further updates.

Rain And Rocks: The Route Turns Risky

Because of strong rain, a seasonal stream overflowed and loosened boulders along the trek. Vinay Jhinkwan from the Public Works Department shared that mud and large rocks made it tough to walk. Even though teams have started cleaning the area, the full path is still not ready. Pilgrims walking down from the shrine are allowed, but no one can go upward toward Kedarnath.

Pilgrims Asked To Stay Alert

Officials have requested all pilgrims to follow weather reports and government messages. The Char Dham Yatra is very special for many families, but safety comes first. Those who have already reached Sonprayag are told to stay in safe hotels or shelters. Roads may look clear for now, but new landslides can happen anytime because of the continuing rain.

Rain Hits Other Parts Of Uttarakhand Too

The Dehradun area also faced problems due to rains. Trees fell on roads, electric wires got tangled, and traffic stopped for hours. Teams quickly cleared blocked roads in places like Jakhan and Racecourse Road. In Pauri, officials kept the area on high alert. In Champawat, a part of the road near Chalthi Bridge broke down and needed urgent fixing.

More Rain Expected, Yatra Remains On Hold

The weather office has warned of heavy rain in the next few days in districts like Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh. Wind, thunder, and lightning may also come. Officials are waiting for the rain to stop before they start the yatra again. All decisions will be taken after checking that the road is fully safe for walking. Till then, people must be patient.
