New Delhi (India) November 14: JDU’s Anant Kumar Singh emerged victorious from Mokama constituency by defeating RJD’s Veena Devi by 28,206 in Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The criminal turned politician tossed in jail after he was held on charges of murdering Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) poll worker Dular Chand Yadav, in the wee hours of November 2, 2025.

Mokama’s ‘Chhote Sarkar’ Reclaims Stronghold After Acquittal

After 26 rounds of counting, Singh emerged victorious with a margin of 91,416 votes while his rival RJD’s Veena Devi managed to get just 63,023 as per the Election Commission of India reads. His victory has only been a reiteration of his continued hold in Mokama, a seat that he had appropriated for years.

He is popularly known as ‘Chhote Sarkar’ in Bihar. Singh, a five-time MLA from Mokama, at present has 28 criminal cases pending against him, according to his affidavit.

Murder Case and Arrests

Singh relinquished the seat to his wife after he was disqualified in 2022, following a UAPA conviction. Now, after being acquitted earlier this year by the Patna High Court, he has reclaimed the political mantle and is contesting polls himself in 2025.

Anant Kumar Singh was arrested in the wee hours on November 2 by Patna Police in connection with the alleged murder of Dularchand Yadav who was killed on October 30 following an altercation between JSP supporters and JD(U).

Post-Mortem Findings Stir Controversy

The post-mortem report of Yadav had said that he died due to cardio-respiratory failure as a result of shock on account of injuries sustained in the heart and lungs by hard and blunt substance, the Patna SSP, Kartikeya Sharma, had said. The incident was in the Mokama Taal area under the jurisdiction of Bhadaur and Ghoswari police stations.

Mr. Singh, a former gangster who entered politics subsequently, has been under the scanner ever since. Police arrested the ex-MLA from his Barh house. Two others, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, who were allegedly present during the incident have also been arrested.
