New Delhi (India) October 7: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar was a senior member of the Indian Police Service of Haryana cadre. He was discovered dead at his Chandigarh home on Tuesday. Initial reports said that Kumar killed himself by shooting himself. Haryana Police and administrative institutions are shocked by the sad event.

Daughter Finds Body; Police Begin Immediate Inquiry

Police claimed that Puran Kumar used his service revolver to shoot himself. His daughter discovered his dead body in the basement. Investigations are underway. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory is inspecting the area. People who were in the house at the time are being interrogated.

Statement by Chandigarh SSP

Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said, "The incident of IPS officer's death reportedly occurred at around 1:30 pm, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities are questioning members of her family to gather information about the circumstances surrounding her death.”

She added, “An information regarding a reported suicide was received from House No 116, Sector 11, Chandigarh, around 1.30pm today. The deceased has been identified as Puran Kumar, IPS (2001 batch), Haryana cadre. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory team is at the spot, and investigation is underway.”

Officials Rush to the Scene to Investigate 

Senior Haryana Police officers and Chandigarh Police officers went to the scene after the event was reported. A formal investigation has been launched by authorities. This is to determine the circumstances and potential motivations for his suicide.

Police have also started interviewing all those inside the building when the suicide occurred. This is in order to learn more about the events that resulted in the tragic incident. The IPS officer's body has been sent to the Government Hospital in Sector 16 for a post-mortem investigation.

Authorities will also probably look into Kumar's personal and work life. His home has been seized by the Chandigarh Police. They will also carry out an in-depth forensic investigation. As the inquiry continues, more information is anticipated.

Family and Career Background

Senior IPS officer ADGP Y Puran Kumar served with merit in Haryana for many years. On September 29, Kumar was appointed Inspector General of the Police Training Center at Sunaria in Rohtak. Before that, he had served for five months as the Rohtak Range IG.

Amneet P. Kumar, his wife, is an IAS officer. She is a top bureaucrat who works in the state administration. Amneet Kumar was overseas at the time of the incident. She was traveling to Japan with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on an official visit. It is anticipated that she will return to India shortly.

The cause and motivation of the suicide have not yet been disclosed in an official statement. Officials are expecting initial ballistic and forensic tests. The family has not made any comments.
