Indore Couple case: Wife arrested with 3 others after husband found dead

New Delhi (India) June 10: During their honeymoon trip Sonam, the wife, who had been missing since May 23 in Meghalaya, hired contract killers to kill her husband. She committed the crime because she was having an affair with a man named Raj Kushwaha.

Sonam, the wife of Raja Raghuvanshi, surrendered herself to the police on Monday. According to sources, the other three suspected hitmen were taken into custody from the couple's hometown Indore. Sonam was found in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh after she had contacted her brother. There is one more accused who is yet to be arrested.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, Sonam spoke with her relatives on June 9 between two and three in the morning. The Madhya Pradesh Police were then informed by the family.

Davis Marak, the deputy inspector general of police for Meghalaya said that the trip was planned to kill Raja and described the murder as cold-blooded. The police official also added that an extramarital affair seemed to be the main reason for the murder as per the initial investigation.

Devi Singh, Sonam's father, said his daughter was innocent. He also charged that the administration and police of Meghalaya had been "lying" and "formulating" stories from the start.

He said, “These are all false allegations against my daughter. Police are accusing my child to save themselves. Police are also involved in this. I will send a notice to the Police.”

Uma, the mother of Raja Raghuvanshi also said that she is unable to hold Sonam responsible for her husband's murder at this time. However, she also stated that Sonam should be punished if she has any responsibility.

Conrad Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, wrote on X, “Within 7 days, a major breakthrough has been achieved by the Meghalaya Police in the Raja murder case. 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, a female has surrendered, and the operation is still on to catch one more assailant” about the "major breakthrough" in the case of the missing Indore couple.

When the Indore Raghuvanshis went missing, they were in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. The state's peaceful slopes and lush peaks became the scene of an intense search and rescue effort. The decomposing body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found in East Khali Hills a week later. Sonam Raghuvanshi was nowhere to be found. Her family was afraid she might be kidnapped. After a few days, a twist was revealed. Sonam was discovered. She was ill and charged with hiring hired murderers to kill her husband.

The relatives of Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi have been calling for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case because of the Meghalaya government's lack of response.
