IPL 2025: All Rounder Axar Patel Is The New Captain of The Delhi Capitals

Delhi (India) March 14: Delhi Capitals have named all rounder Axar Patel as their new captain for the IPL 2025. The owners finally named Axar as the captain as fans were waiting for the announcement since quite a long time. Previously, Rishabh Pant was the captain of the franchise but in the mega auction he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants. He will captain them in the upcoming season.  

There were many speculations about the new captain as Delhi went for KL Rahul in the auction and they got him for a fair price. KL Rahul has captained Lucknow Super Giants in the past and has decent record as the captain. There are reports that Delhi offered him the captaincy role but he sincerely denied and said he would love to contribute as a player. So Delhi Capitals went with Axar Patel who has been the backbone of the franchise since 2019.

They retained him before the mega auction at a hefty price of 18 Crore. Along with Axar they retained Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel. He has emerged as the top players for the franchise as he been part of them since last six seasons. He has played 82 matches in which he has scored 967 runs and got 62 wickets at an economy rate of 7.09. This record is highly impressive. Due to his consistency he became one of the most important players for the Indian team in the shorter format.

“I’ve grown as a cricketer and a human being during my time here at the Capitals, and I feel ready and confident to lead this side going forward. Our coaches and scouts have done a superb job at the mega auction by putting together a balanced and robust squad which has tremendous potential. We have plenty of leaders in the group which is also very helpful for me, and I can’t wait to join the team as we look forward to a very successful season for the Capitals, backed by the immense love and support of our fans.”

Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2025 season on 24 March. They will play against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam. LSG is captained by Rishabh Pant who was the last captain of DC. The Capitals have not won any IPL season. This time they have a very well balanced side with the mixture of both Youth and Experienced players. They will surely aim to win their maiden title.
