Ahmedabad (India) April 19: Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford played critical roles in the run-chase as Gujarat Titans gunned down a mammoth 204 in sensational fashion against the Delhi Capitals at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Titans registered their third home win this season, emerging victorious in a nail-biter by seven wickets.
With a decent bowling performance, the Titans set themselves 204 to chase down, but they lost their skipper Shubman Gill in the very first over of the innings. Neverthelsss, Jos Buttler and B Sai Sudharsan bed in for 35-ball 60-run stand until the latter perished for 36.
It was after Sai Sudha’san's wicket that the Englishman turned on his beast mode, headlined by taking down Mitchell Starc with five consecutive boundaries in an over. None of Delhi Capitals passed fifty but multiple impactful contributions propel them to a steep total.
On a scorching afternoon, Abhishek Porel slammed 16 runs off the opening over sent down by Mohammed Siraj but gifted his wicket in the following one. KL Rahul also seemed for a long innings but eventually fell for 28 off 13 deliveries. The highest partnership of the Capitals’ innings was 53 off 36 deliveries that came between Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs.
Although none of their batters passed half-centuries, all of them played at higher strike rates. Axar Patel (39 off 17 balls), Tristan Stubbs (31 off 21 deliveries) and Ashutosh Sharma (37 off 19 balls) were among the chief contributors in propelling their side to 203/8 in 20 overs.
