Madhya Pradesh High Court issues an order to file FIR against Vijay Shah; minister moves to Supreme Court

New Delhi (India) May 16: Minister Vijay Shah of Madhya Pradesh is facing difficulties after Chief Minister Mohan Yadav ordered action in response to a court order regarding his controversial remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who led India's Operation Sindoor strikes against Pakistani terror bases.

Vijay Shah is a part of an Indore case filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections. A high court judgement that described the minister's comments as "disparaging and dangerous" led to the case being registered.

When Shah called out Colonel Qureshi as a "sister of terrorists," the High Court took suo motu action against him, calling his remarks "scurrilous" and "language of the gutters."

This happened after Vijay Shah apologised for his comments, which caused national outrage and received criticism from all sides. In a video apology, Vijay Shah said, "I sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart, and I am not only ashamed and saddened by my statement."

Shah had said at a government function that the Prime Minister sent out a "sister from the same community" as those in Pakistan to take revenge for the terror attack that took place in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

The Supreme Court was informed by Shah's attorney that the minister had apologised and expressed regret, but that the media had misrepresented and overstated his remarks. "He has apologised, and his remarks were misinterpreted," the attorney argued.

Shah argued in a plea that his statement had been "misinterpreted" and requested a stay of the High Court's judgement.

In a severe judgement on Madhya Pradesh BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah's comments against Indian Army officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Supreme Court on Thursday declined to get involved in the FIR that had been filed against him at this time.

BJP Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah had petitioned the Supreme Court for relief a day after the Madhya Pradesh High Court filed a formal complaint against him for making "hate speech" against Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi became a representative for 'Operation Sindoor' after providing press briefings on the Indian Air Force's warfare actions against terrorist setups in Pakistan.
